در این تحقیق به منظور بازتولید انتشار لکه­های نفتی منتشر شده از میادین نفتی ترکمنستان در دریای خزر بر اساس شواهد میدانی گزارش شده، از مدل­های عددی FVCOM و GNOME استفاده گردید.  به این منظور، ابتدا جریانات ناشی از باد در فصول تابستان و پاییز سال 2012 شبیه سازی شدند. نتایج شبیه سازی­ های انجام شده با داده­ های اندازه گیری جریان سطحی در سه ایستگاه آستارا، رودسر و امیرآباد مقایسه گشتند. مقایسه ­ی داده ­های اندازه گیری و خروجی مدل جریان نشان داد، در صورت به کار بستن مدول بستار تلاطم در مدل جریان، نتایج به واقعیت نزدیک­تر هستند. در ادامه به منظور تعیین مقصد لکه­ های نفتی منتشر شده از میادین نفتی ترکمنستان، خروجی مدل جریان به همراه سری زمانی باد 6 ساعته در نرم افزار GNOME اعمال شدند. محل ریزش نفت، چاه­های نفتی ترکمنستان واقع در کرانه شرقی حوضه جنوبی دریای خزر و در مقابل شبه جزیره چله کن در نظر گرفته شد. نوع ریزش به صورت لحظه­ ای و حجم ریزش در محل هر چاه به مقدار 100 بشکه فرض شد و شبیه سازی­ ها با زمان­ های ریزش متفاوت انجام شدند و محل برخورد لکه­ های نفتی با سواحل به دست آمد. مقایسه­ ی نتایج شبیه سازی و موقعیت محل جمع آوری تاربال­ های نفتی در ماه آگوست سال 2012، نشان دهنده ­ی صحت قابل قبول نتایج شبیه سازی است و می­توان گفت، رسیدن آلودگی­ های نفتی منتشر شده از میادین نفتی ترکمنستان به سواحل ایران در فصل تابستان امکان­ پذیر است.
