در این مطالعه الگوی شکست پیش‌فرض موجود در مدل عددی SWAN  و الگوی شکست ارائه شده توسط Thornton و Guza در سال 1983 بررسی شده و نشان داده شد که با اصلاح ضرایب موجود در این الگو می‌توان بهبود زیادی در شبیه‌سازی امواج در آب کم عمق حاصل نمود. برای انجام این بررسی، امواجی در آزمایشگاه و در 3 عمق، 3 پریود و 3 ارتفاع تولید گردید و با شبیه‌سازی آن‌ها در مدل عددی SWAN به مقایسه ارتفاعات موج تولید شده در آزمایشگاه و مدل پرداخته شد. برای انجام این مقایسه دو پارامتر اصلی موجود در الگوی شکست Thornton و Guza در حالات مختلف کالیبره شدند و نشان داده شد که هریک از این حالات چه میزان بهبود را در شبیه‌سازی امواج تولیدی در آزمایشگاه توسط مدل عددی SWAN حاصل می‌کند. در نهایت برای اصلاح این دو پارامتر، روابطی پیشنهاد گردید که با اعمال آن‌ها در مدل عددی SWAN عملکرد این مدل در محاسبه استهلاک ناشی از شکست بهبود قابل توجهی می‌یابد.
